Excel Heat have completed the second Bogie Hearth Furnace in Coventry. The first was installed three years ago and has proven exceptionally reliable and probably, more importantly it has consistently met the stringent BS2M54 Category 'A' specification, which is generally adopted in the aerospace industry as the bench mark for testing precisely controlled furnaces.
This is achieve through the experience of Excel Heat design and manufacturing team and the accurate process control available with the Honeywell DCP551, UDC1500 control instrumentation and the Mulitrend paperless recorder.
Both of the Excel Heat furnaces met the rigorous BS2M54 specification throughout the range of 150°C to 1100°C. To comply with the customers requirements the furnaces are tested regularly to ensure they continue to meet the specification, which means that the demands on the furnaces and the control system to consistently achieve these exacting standards of reliability and repeatability are immense.
Each of the furnaces has multi zone control, the power being controlled through individual burst firing thyristors. On the latest addition the Honeywell Mulitrend displays graphically the output on each of the three phases, in each of the four zones, which gives vital information to the engineers and helps with maintenance diagnostics.
To assist in the operation of the furnace a very high temperature recirculation fan is positioned centrally below the roof of the furnace. This greatly assist the heat transfer and also the uniformity especially at the lower temperatures.
