STD 10 Welding Unit

STD 10 Welding Unit

Specifically made for portable rugged site use, the STD10 welding unit is an extremely robust capacitor discharge type welding module, which enables rapid attachment of thermocouple wires directly to the work piece. Using a simplified solid-state circuit, a rechargeable battery charges a capacitor to a level suitable to spot-weld the normal thermocouple wires used at stress relieving temperatures (I.e.-Type `K` Ni Cr /Ni Al, 0.711mm dia.). The capacitor is discharged through a SCR device via the thermocouple wire held on the work piece surface, the return circuit is completed by a magnetically held lead back to the unit.

The weld penetration on the work piece is minimal approx 0.18mm. The heat affected zone (HAZ) is only 0.28mm causing no damage to the work piece other than a small blemish which can easily be removed.

Tests by many authorities have shown that this method of thermocouple attachment is the only way of ensuring accurate temperature measurement, when the sensor hot junction is the work piece surface. Other methods of attachment can result in errors of up to 50°C.

Thermocouple Mini Weld - Welding Unit

Thermocouple Mini Weld - Welding Unit

The MINI-WELD is a miniaturised capacitor discharge welder for rapid attachment of thermocouple wires to work-pieces.

Although the MINI-WELD is very small and lightweight, it has all the capabilities of units many times larger and heavier. It is supplied in a durable pouch and can be conveniently carried about and operated while clipped to the operators’ belt.

Technical Description:

The MINI-WELD causes a brief pulse of high current to flow through the circuit, and welds the thermocouple wire to the work piece. The electrical energy comes from the batteries and the unit converts the low-voltage, low current power to a higher-voltage (suitable for welding) charge in an energy storage capacitor. The conversion and sequencing is supervised by a microprocessor.

The MINI-WELD takes a few seconds to build up the charge to the level selected. When the unit is fired, the stored energy is released. Because the electrical resistance of the supply wires is so low, the stored energy can deliver a brief pulse of current in excess of 1,000 amps to the weld. The weld penetration on the work piece is minimal only 0.18mm. The Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) is only 0.28mm causing no damage to the work piece other than a small blemish, which can be easily removed.

Thermocouple Welding Unit PC1 - Standard Output Unit

Thermocouple Welding Unit PC1 - Standard Output Unit

Product No: 43700

The PCI welding unit is a lightweight, portable, capacitor discharge welding module, which enables rapid attachment of thermocouple wires directly to the workpiece. Using solid state circuitry it is encased in a robust, impact resistant, elastolit D-07-1 polyurethane case and comes complete with carrying strap.

The welding unit has a rechargable 12 volt battery, which charges a capacitor to a level (chosen by the operator) to suit the thermocouple wire being used, or any variation in the workpiece surface. The capacitor is discharged through a SCR device via the thermocouple wire held on the workpiece surface, and the return circuit is completed by a magnetically held lead back to the unit. It can be used in "manual" or "auto" mode. The unit has five power settings and automatically switches off after approx. 1 minute when not in use.

The PCI thermocouple welding unit is available in two versions - the standard unit has a 10,000 uf capacitor and variable output enabling thermocouple wires of up to 0.85mm dia., to be attached (normal type "K" NICr/NiAl, thermocouple wire is 0.711mm dia.)

The high output version has a 22,000 uf capacitor which enables thermocouple wires of approx. 1.00mm dia to be attached. Tests by many authorities have shown that this method of thermocouple attachment is the only way of ensuiring accurate temperature measurement, when the sensor hot junction is on the same workpiece surface as the heat source. Other methods of attachment can result in errors of uo to 50oC The weld penetration on the workpiece is minimal - only 0.18mm. The Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) is only 0.28mm - causing no damage to the workpiece other than a small blemish which can be easliy removed.
